 Khaitan & Co absorbs south India law firm Assentio Legal

Khaitan & Co, one of India’s top corporate law firms, has brought Assentio Legal within its fold effective July 1 to strengthen its presence in southern India.

Assentio Legal was founded by partners Thriyambak Kannan, Rohan Cherian and Renu Gopalakrishnan. They and their team of associates and support staff will join Khaitan’s Chennai and Bengaluru offices, respectively.

Khaitan said Monday the focus of the Chennai office will be on advising clients on general corporate and commercial advisory, M&A, private equity and venture capital, solvent and insolvent restructuring, private and public investments, real estate and dispute resolution matters including mediation, domestic and international arbitrations.

Kannan specializes in corporate, commercial and civil litigation, advising on issues arising under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. Cherian’s expertise lies in general corporate and commercial advisory, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital, and transactional support across sectors.

Gopalakrishnan has represented business houses on their inbound and outbound acquisition strategies, apart from advising on mining, trading and trade financing.

Haigreve Khaitan, senior partner at Khaitan & Co, said that the Assentio Legal team is “an ideal match” for Khaitan in South India and that their experience and skillset will significantly contribute to the firm’s clients.

Established in 1911, Khaitan & Co is a full-service law firm in India and Singapore with over 750 fee earners and more than 175 partners. Earlier this year, the firm promoted 27 executives across its offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata.
