Full-service law firm Khaitan & Co has elected a new director among the list of 27 executives who were recently handed out promotions across its offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata.
Sumit Chakraborty, who was previously counsel, has been promoted as director in the corporate and commercial practice group. He is based in Kolkata and specialises in corporate, insolvency, financing and real estate transactions.
The firm promoted 17 principal associates and five counsels to partner designations. It also elevated four principal associates to counsels across practice areas, verticals and locations, the law firm said in a statement.
Khaitan, established in 1911, will now have a team of 165 partners and over 750 fee earners.
The staff appraisals follow the opening of the firm’s Singapore office as it taps clients based in Singapore and Asia-Pacific region seeking advice on India’s laws on mergers and acquisitions, public and private investments, international taxation and arbitration matters.
The opening of the Singapore office is in line with the firm’s view that the city-state has become a hub for inbound and outbound opportunities for its Indian and international clients.
Anuj Shah, partner, M&A and private client practice, and Jean Muller, director of strategy will serve as resident representatives at Khaitan’s Singapore office.
